I’ve wanted to use the model above for quite some time. I just hadn’t figured out what I wanted to do with it. Then I saw John Carter. Don’t ask me what the smoke has to do with John Carter. Nothing really. Well, nothing at all. Still, John Carter gave me the inspiration for this cover. By the way, if you haven’t checked out the movie, do so. It was quite interesting.
I don’t know why I’ve been interested in ChickLit covers lately, but I am. I think it’s the cartoony look I’m finding with them. As many may know, I can barely draw stick figures, so sketching out a design doesn’t work all too well for me. However, I’m learning more and more about Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, which is allowing me to be a little more creative with my work.
One way I’ve gotten around my poor drawing skills is through the use of DAZ 3D. What I’ve done this time is designed my picture in Daz 3D then applied some effect techniques to strip out the color and turn it into a line drawing. From there, I reintroduced the colors, which made my artwork look less realistic and more like a pencil drawing. At least, I think so. 😉 So here you have it.
