Witch Way

A while back, I read a book called The Wish List. There was something about the book… all sparkly and magically looking… that really grabbed my attention. Okay… so this isn’t a sparkly cover. However, it has a lightness to it (and not just because she’s flying on a broom) that reminds me of The Wish List.

And continuing on with he Whimsical covers… Well, this is a bit less whimsical. It still has the faerie action going on. However, I look at this one and it promises action and darkness, where as the previous two were a bit more mystical and light. I don’t know. Though the style is similar and the model is the same… I can’t exactly say it’s a balanced set.

Depending on if time allows and motivation, I might try a 4th cover with this theme this week. We’ll see. I might just stave off a new cover for next Saturday instead.

Photoshop Brushes

So once again, I’m using the photoshop brushes I picked up from DAZ. Anyway… it’s really interesting how color schemes and different elements can really change the direction of a theme.

A while back I did a faerie type cover. Though I’m not a big fan of reading the genre, I rather liked the idea of working with brushes. Well, I’ve decided to revisit the style this week.

Photoshop Brushes

As I mentioned in a previous post, DAZ has quite a few artists who create brushes. I grab them, but I don’t always make use of them. And if I don’t use them, it’s hard to get see my money’s worth. Still… I love brushes.

Other than the different color palate and pose of my faerie, I tried to be a little different with the brushes also. Whereas the previous cover was very heavy with the brushes, I played a bit with the white space and tried to make this a little more open. So… here we have it!

Gulliver

Gulliver-01I love the idea of Gulliver’s Travel… the character finding themselves in a situation where their size is significantly different than the natives. A while back, I did a graphic design with a futuristic Jack and the Bean stalk.

I look at this cover, though, and wonder who’s the main character. Is it the gal being cradled in the hand or is the owner of the hands who’s just found this miniature human? Hmm… I guess that’s the owner of the cover to decide.

Whimsical Wraparound

I’ve never been a faerie fan. However, I was hit with a bit of inspiration. Oddly enough, the inspiration had nothing to do with faeries. Rather, it had more to do with the usage of brushes.

DAZ has quite a few artists who create brushes. I’ve picked up more than my fair share of them. However, I rarely use them. To be honest, I’m not highly skilled at putting them together to make anything really striking. I attempted to push myself this time around and ended up with the above background.

The muted colors made me think of faerie, so I whipped out DAZ studio and created an elf to go with it. So! There we have it.

Jack and the Beanstalk

I’ve been in the fairytale mood lately. Other than positioning, I admit this was a rather simple render. My Mac has been running impossibly slow these days. So, I didn’t even bother dealing with the lighting. Still, when I think of Jack on the beanstalk, my imagination always says bright and sunny day.
